Safe Workplace

I. Safe work environment

Utechzone strives to maintain a joyful, harmonious, and friendly work environment, and has been continuously enhancing our measures for employee healthcare and occupational safety. We care about the mental and physical health of our employees and workplace safety, which resulted in the establishment of the two primary goals for safe workplace management, “creating a safe workplace” and “zero occupational accidents,” providing our employees a reliable and safe work environment.

II. Organization Occupational safety and health

To prevent occupational accidents, enforce safety and health management, ensure plant safety, and protect the safety and health of laborers, the established Occupational Safety Section is now in charge of determining safety and health issues, including safety and health education training, health management and health promotion, accident investigation, contractor management, and hazard prevention measures.

III. Occupational safety risk management

Each of our plants has dedicated occupational safety and health management personnel in place, who are in charge of the planning, supervision, and promotion of labor safety and health affairs. The following protective measures are implemented by occupational safety and health personnel, who regularly makes safety inspections and auditing to ensure a safe work environment. If an anomaly is found during the inspection process, a correction notice will be sent with demands for improvement within a set time limit. The plant’s protective measures are as follows:

Items Protective measures
Safety inspection of employee locations Building public safety inspections shall be conducted based on the Building Act and the Regulations Governing the Building Public Safety Inspection Certification and Declaration, to ensure that workplaces are safe and legal.

To properly implement occupational safety and health management, ensuring the plants’ safety and protecting the safety and health of laborers, the Occupational Safety Section regularly promotes occupational safety information via e-mails, display advocacy posters in the plant area to notify employees of precautions, minimizing the probability of hazards during operation. Employees are also encouraged to submit suggestions about occupational safety to the occupational safety personnel in the plant, who will acknowledge the advice and provide the necessary assistance. Occupational safety issues are advocated and conveyed to contractors during the annual meeting of contracted organizations.

V. Education training and advocacy

To ensure employees are fully aware of the laws related to occupational health and familiar with the company’s safety and health management mechanisms, we are providing safety and health training courses to our employees and workers as required by law and job duties, which will improve the employees’ knowledge on safety and health.

Items Training
Fire disaster and hazard response training for employees Based on the Fire Services Act, two employee fire drills and emergency aid training sessions are conducted each year. Company goes beyond the regulations and adds two emergency evacuation trainings, imbuing our employees with proper emergency and disaster response capacity.
Employee safety and health education training and protective measures Based on the Occupational Safety and Health Education and Training Rules, all new employees are required to receive occupational safety and health education training, ensuring that employees have sufficient safety and health knowledge to prevent occupational accidents from happening.
Training of qualified personnel to operate dangerous machinery in the production plant areas To ensure the employees can legally and safely operate the crane equipment in the plant areas, they are required to pass the training at a qualified occupational safety and health training institution, obtaining the required license before operating the machinery to reassure the safety of all employees.
On-site training for contractors To ensure the safety of contractors’ operations, they are required to receive occupational safety and health education training before entering the plant and starting the operation. Before working in the plant areas, contractors must thoroughly read the hazard notices and precautions of the Company’s equipment and operations, and sign an affidavit agreeing to adhere to all related rules.

VI. Disaster response drill

To increase our employees’ disaster prevention awareness and improve their emergency response capacity to crises, we regularly collaborate with the local fire department to implement fire drills in the plant areas. Through hands-on practice and drill exercises, we strengthen our employees’ ability to respond to emergencies. In 2023, we organized eight fire drills and trained 170 individuals, reaching 680 total training hours.

VII. Occupational accident management

Utechzone has established accident reporting protocols, as well as designated systems that record and track the causes of accidents and the subsequent improvements. All occupational accidents must be reported to the labor inspection agency within 8 hours and investigated by on-site supervisors. Hazardous elements and related risks shall be re-examined and re-evaluated to ensure the submission of an improvement proposal and completion of an occupational accident investigation report for future reference. The occupational safety personnel shall also conduct regular inspections to verify that the improvement measures have been implemented and the safety of the work environment is confirmed.
As required by the Occupational Safety and Health Act, Utechzone maintains monthly tally reports on occupational accidents and submits them to the inspection organizations of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for inspection and future reference. As of the end of 2022, there are no records of occupational accidents that result in debilitating injuries.
